@firstdefence

Thanks for that - it's complicated to explain but there's a reason why I did't really want to use this method. It means I have to take several steps backwards and create my design again. Nevermind, I think that's what I'll have to do. Seems crazy that this is the default behaviour for text on a path ( at least in this case ).

@G13RL

Thanks for your input also - much appreciated.

What did you do just before the text reversed? I can't tell from your recording.

When I try to type text on a path it's backwards, like it's being reflected in a mirror ( see attached ). I have no idea why this is happening and it's driving me crazy. Any help would be very much appreciated.

What is your baseline for the text set to?  Without a negative baseline I can't get my text to do what you are seeing.

Possibly you have its text frame (the curve it's pasted on) mirrored any time before.

(but not if it is flipped manually by dragging).

Sure? – In my example the text on path occurred flipped, entirely regardless of the method the curve object got flipped before: manually, by toolbar button or by menu.

you seemed to refer to the same procedure

To me the question is not relevant whether text gets flipped together with its curve (text frame) after the text was applied: I would expect it does. – Therefore I did trials with flipped objects only before text gets applied. I used a ellipse shape and did not experience a difference with the flipping method. ... BUT now...

I just tried with picture frames and children lock, as a possible option to have an object inside, then flip the picture frame with the nested item as locked children. And then to apply the text. But I got two totally unexpected results (which make me wonder if there a is a bug – any confirm?):

1. If a picture frame, with its nested child locked, gets flipped by button, then the child gets flipped, too. (the lock doesn't work for flipping)
2. same, but if flipped by dragging, then the nested child is not flipped (the lock works for flipping).

I also get this experience with rotation: Rotate Button ignores the lock // Transform Panel + drag-rotate respects the lock.  <– Is this difference 'by design'? For what purpose?
