There is no built-in feature in APu to count words right now. There are several threads demanding this feature.

Surely for the 'space' it would take up in the app, it matters not if it's there? I can't see a downside to it being present.

I'm not about to get all 'pure' about it being a "word processing, not design" thing. Clients will often ask me for a word count, so it would be useful. "design" is a business with clients to satisfy, as opposed to some 'high art' with only the artist's own sensitivites to satisfy.

Words are crude implements, difficult to get perfect, easy to get tied in knots with, and often - usually - misunderstood, which is why 'tolarence' is the best word of all.

The word "professional" fits us all - amateur, semi-pro, beginner, advanced, middle, beyond it all, and on....., because professionals are tolerant.

I had the same problem a few years ago too, when I was layouting a montly magazine. Guess what? I always told them the wrong value. Sometimes too low, sometimes too high.

You can do an approximation. Create a text frame with width and height 100 mm, fill it with real-word text, with real-world font size and leading and make a count. So have a basis for "guessing" the word count for other text frames. ;)

With the release of V2, Publisher now has ‘word count’ capabilities.
Type word count into the application Help search box to get more information.

Ok Thanks for suggestion. We will try it. Thanks again

For me on my Mac, typing "Word Count" into the APub Help menu search field shows me the "Show Word Count" in the View menu. But typing "Word Count" into the built-in Affinity Publisher Help window does not produce any relevant results, nor did searching on that phrase in the online version of APub 2's help topics.

However, I discovered that the help topic Document Statistics does include all the relevant info for that function. The topic can be found in the Contents > Text > Checking Text section of the online or built-in help.

BTW, for me on my Mac, if in the APub 2 Help menu I select "Affinity Publisher 2 Learning Portal" I am taken to All about Affinity Designer 2 at  https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/learn/designer/desktop/, not the portal for Affinity Publisher 2. Same thing for selecting Quickstart Guide from that menu -- I am taken to Affinity Designer 2 (Desktop) Quickstart Guide at https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/learn/designer/desktop/quickstart/

Anybody else using a Mac see this?

@v_kyr, I see now that I mistakenly was searching in the AD 2 online help, not the APub one, which explains why I could not get the help topic for word count!

But it is still not showing up for me when I open the APub 2 builtin Help window & use its search field on word count or word. I only get 3 results there, one for Editing Tables, one for Paragraph Panel, & one for Initial words.

I also still get the Designer 2 items, not the APub 2 ones for the Help menu topics Learning Portal & Quickstart guide.

Anybody seeing anything like that (for eother Mac or Windows)?

I am not asking about the search feature in the Help menu but about getting the Designer 2 items, not the APub 2 ones for the two Help menu topics Learning Portal & Quickstart guide. When I click on either of them on the Help menu, Safari opens the Designer 2 pages I linked to in my earlier post, not the ones for APub 2.

Same for opening the separate APub 2 builtin Help window (not the Help menu) & use its search field on "word count" or "word." I only get 3 results there, one for Editing Tables, one for Paragraph Panel, & one for Initial words.

Ah sorry, I misunderstood.

Like you, if I choose Learning Portal in Publisher v2 I am taken to All About Affinity Designer. This seems to me to be a bug.

However...

Fewer (2) hits, but one for 'word count'. Clicking the which takes me here:

Weird. This is what I get:

Note that it does not even show that it is for Affinity Publisher version 2 like it does for you & that the Document Statistics topic is in the "All Other Help" section.

Maybe something to do with Catalina?

Title bars are different. What you're seeing is Affinity Publisher Help. What I'm seeing is Affinity Publisher 2 Help.

Yes, I now realize that is what is happening for me, but I am opening that window from the APub 2 Help menu item "Affinity Publisher 2 Help" item, so that seems like another bug in the Help menu, at least when APub 2 is running in Catalina.
