Google fonts plus some other suggestions

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am new to Affinity Designer and I have some feedback.

1) I saw that Affinity offers possibility to add Unsplash imgs directly from the app, witch is amazing. Why isn't there the same thing for google fonts?

2) Will in the future be added a tool similar to shape builder tool and smooth tool from Illustrator.

Thank you!

While using fonts other than installed into system is unorthodox thing to do, web developing apps do it all the time. It would make sense to use Google fonts direct in web development work in Designer. Even though you can download and install them easily enough..

The free FontBase version is pretty useless. You are better of just using google fonts.

?

FontBase IS a tool for activating Google fonts? ...maybe you mean download and install is just as easy?

Xara Designer Pro allows activating Google fonts in their app.

For those on Mac, I recommend TypeFace 2. It seems to be a fair app for a reasonable price (with a free trial), and it does include Google Font activation that works with Affinity without restarting the apps. Sometimes auto activation is slow (sometimes I have to close and reopen the document), but that is my only complaint. Additionally, I have even been in contact with the developer and found out they are fans of the Affinity suite, so I assume that means compatibility with Affinity will continue to be something they want to maintain.

Is there any similar font manager for Windows? I mean similar by tools.
