Hi everyone I’m new to the forum and I’m having problems with editing infrared photos on my up to date Affinity Photo editing suite.

The problem is that I can’t get white leaves, trees etc using my variable infrared filter (530-750) whether or not I custom white balance or channel swap-the latter just changes my image from bright red to bright blue.

I’m using a Pentax K70 with custom 18-135 lens, although I gather this lens is not best suited to IR photography,I’m not sure what difference the lens makes.

I’d be grateful for any suggestions you have..

I have never heard of a variable IR filter. How does it work? I have a 720 filter for my work and I will say that the older Pentax has a sever IR cut filter so that one is no good for IR work but the newer Canon works okay in that the IR cut filter is less severe, but I still have exposure times of several seconds.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.5.7 | Affinity Photo 2.5.7 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.7 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

If it is what this article discusses, apparently it does not work very well at all.

Thanks Old Bruce and R C-R for your comments.Yes R C-R “this article” does refer to the type of variable IR filter I have, I was just trying to feel my way with IR photography but with hindsight should have bought a better filter. However I don’t think that’s the reason for my problems editing but I will pursue the aptitude of my camera for this type of photography.

Incidentally,Old Bruce, my Pentax is only four years old (released in 2016) so I don’t think it’s old yet but I will pursue the inbuilt filter line.

Thanks again both.

I was less than clear, My Pentax is Old, much, much older than your K70.

Hi MartW and Welcome to the Forums,

This article may help I can't i've done any infrared photography but from the article a lot to get the best results you'll need to play around with different shutter speeds with the filter.  Have a read of the article and it may give you some ideas to do some further research via Google for your filter and camera  :)
