Delete area inside rectangular marquee

Recommended Posts

Nube. Really simple issue, but I can't make it work as I expect. In multi layer Photo project, I want to erase the top of an image in one layer. I draw the marquee then Ctrl X to delete. It deletes the whole layer, not just the bit inside the marquee. Why please? I expect it is a setting somewhere.

It sounds as though the selected layer is an ‘Image’ layer. Check the designation in the Layers panel.

To work at the pixel level you need to have a ‘Pixel’ layer selected. If the layer in question is currently an ‘Image’ layer, you can convert it to a ‘Pixel’ layer by right-clicking on it in the Layers panel and choosing ‘Rasterize’.
