Mainewaver
I'm pretty new to Affinity Designer and am working on a simple task to create a transparent "cut-out" in a larger element. In the example below, I'm looking to essentially change the white color in the star to pure transparency so that the blue background has a transparent star cut-out in the middle. How can I best accomplish this?
G13RL
Select both shapes and do a boolean operation "Substract". If you want to be able to move the star afterwards, hold down the "Alt" key when you press the "Substract" button.

Alfred
If you just want the visual effect of a star-shaped hole without actually punching a hole, you can select the star layer in the Layers panel and change its blend mode from ‘Normal’ to ‘Erase’ (via the dropdown list at the top of the panel). G13RL
The "Erase" mode goes through all layers so if there is a background or other shape they will not be visible through the hole.
