backspace cycles through styles instead of removing text

Recommended Posts

Problem: Affinity Publisher cycles through styles instead of removing line break when pressing the backspace key.

How to recreate:
Create a text frame in a master sheet. Then go to the regular page and edit the text in this frame. Assign different heading styles to the paragraphs. Create several empty lines between them with the enter key. Then go to the beginning of such a paragraph and remove the superfluous line breaks with backspace.
What I expected: Superfluous line is removed, Heading style of moved text stays the same.
What happens: Instead of removing the lines, the program cycles the text through the heading styles.
The problem varies in my document and a new document: In a new document after changing style a few times the text then finally backspaces correctly. In my own document I am not able to delete these lines by backspacing at all. I need to drag to select the empty line, then backspace, both paragraphs are together then, and then separate them again with enter.
It is really annoying. Please help 🙂

Hello and welcome to the forums @ESteger

From your description I think you may have a Next Style assigned to one or more of the Paragraph styles. If you could attach a document which demonstrates the problem it would help. Seeing as this is your first post you probably cannot attach any right now, so reply to this or some other posts and wait til tomorrow.

Affinity Designer 2.3.1 | Affinity Photo 2.3.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.3.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

I'm seeing this same bug from today.

It started up without warning, I haven't changed anything from the last time I worked on it. At first I thought it was restricted to just one document, but it's appearing in multiple documents -- though not an all paragraph styles.

It doesn't seem to be the Next Style setting. I have it active both on paragraph styles that do not cause this bug, and on ones that do.

Perplexing.
