Auto update linked resources

Recommended Posts

AFPUB 1.8.3, OS X 10.15.3

Configuration: laptop connected to NAS on same network. Resource Manager Collection is on the same NAS. NAS Volume is mounted. The Preferences for AFPUB are set to "Automatically update linked resources when modified externally." Load the program and a document.

Now - using an external photo editor, update one of the Images in the Resource Manager Collection (all images are linked). The Resource Manager recognizes that the image has been modified - see screen shot.

The auto update of the image itself in the document no longer works. However, you can use the Resource Manager to manually Update (button) the image. Not sure if a networked volume is fair game for AFPUB or not. But since the Resource Manager Collection is recognized and used by AFPUB, I think the auto update should be active and working as well.

In this case, I was using Lightroom to edit and "export" the photo. The export is quick and LR releases the file as soon as the export is complete. As I mentioned, AFPUB recognizes the file has been changed (Resource Manager has it marked as "Modified") - but the automatic update in the document and attendant pop-up message is not happening. So far I have had to use the Resource Manager to identify and manually "update" each modified photo. Fortunately it's only a few. This used to work on earlier versions of AFPUB - not sure where it changed.

@Pauls: Was this ever resolved, or logged as a bug? Another user has reported something similar:

AFPUB 1.9.3, Mac OS X (all up to Catalina).

This problem is resolved to my satisfaction. Updates with a 3rd party application to a photo on a NAS are both recognized by AFPUB and automatically updated - with a message from Document Manager in case you want to look deeper into the Collection.
