Good evening, I have been a happy designer user for a few months.  Today I noticed that the memory of my 64 Gb iPad Air is almost full.  On Designer I only have 30 jobs, however the memory occupied (app + jobs) is 25 Gb.  It's normal?  how can I free up some space?  If I save the projects in Affinity format on an external memory, do I solve the problem?

Thank you

Hi Paolinobricks,

Welcome to the forums :)

It depends on the size of the files themselves however 25Gb does seem a little large if you close some of the open files does the amount of space the app is using lower?

Thanks

Hello Callum, thanks for the intervention.

I have just saved and closed many of my works, but I have not noticed any space recovered.

today I bought an SSD memory.  I will try to move the files saved in the Affinity Designer folder to external memory and check if the space has been recovered.

I hope not to lose all the jobs.

If everything is there I would first do a backup of your iPad. I believe that should save all the data as well... could be wrong though been a long time since i have backed up my iPad.

You can work off an SSD drive I believe so you could buy a portable external SSD drive and load files onto that while keeping the iPad hard drive itself reasonably clean from larger project files. I am curious how this would work, I have an iPad pro and only tested an external drive on it, never use it for any work related design work.

25Gb for just the Affinity Designer App and Files is unusually large. Having the new iPad Pro and looking at storage memory, 29 Gb is the entirety of ALL my Apps, Media, Files etc stored on it. Designer and Photo each only having @3 Gb for App and Files....and as an Artist/Designer myself, also using Procreate and LumaFusion for designing (and countless other apps) have over a hundred Art content files.

Affinity Photo/Designer and Procreate ARE my highest Gb usage which would be normal given natures of the Apps.

Now my iPad Pro IS the 256Gb version, so there is more room, but Something is up if at 64 Gb you’re storage is becoming filled. Might need to check on other items Stored on your iPad (photos, videos, files, number of Apps, etc.) If a lot of media- photos, music, videos, files,etc- then utilize off storage...SSDs, Cloud etc. Apple even gives extra Cloud Storage capacity for only .99¢ a month which I use (and currently hardly need), as well as Other New SSD over-air devices sold.

I know on my iPad 3, which I used Procreate on a long while ago used to come across this issue being limited storage capacity, but most was due to the Procreate original files, Images Exported, App itself combined with all the other stuff being the real culprits. Offload unused apps. Find better storage and uses for files....SSD, Cloud storage..and should free up a LOT.
