Mark Oehlschlager
Just tried to reproduce this Photoshop tutorial in Affinity Photo 1.8.3 and discovered that combining a Levels adjustment layer and a Color Fill layer with Color blend mode within a Layer Group kills the effects of the Levels adjustment and the Color blend mode. Puck
A lot of things work in Affinity Photo like in Photoshop, but not everything. This can be explained by the fact that Affinity Photo is not Photoshop (nor a Photoshop clone). It's a different program with a different approach. I'm sure another method will lead to the same goal 😀 Quote iMac 2017, 16 GB RAM, Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640 1536 MB, MacOS Ventura 13.6.6 (22G630) - Affinity V2-Universallizenz

The Group will have blend mode Passthrough. Affinity's Passthrough stops behaving like Photoshop's Pass Through when the group contains a mixture of filter/adjustment and non-filter/adjustment, and an Affinity Fill object is not a filter or adjustment. To make Affinity's Passthrough always behave like Photoshop's Pass Through (until Serif decides to make them match), put a pure white Fill object with blend mode Multiply as the bottom layer inside a Passthrough Group. There is also a compositing bug with Passthrough when a group is masked, but you might not notice that with this example where your mask won't contain much gradation. Mark Oehlschlager
@anon2 Thanks for the tip on the hack. I'm really rooting for Serif to succeed with Affinity, but there are so many bugs that need quashing, I don't know if they'll ever get past the current development stage.
