Hello folks,

So I've been working on tracing a file for many days now and I've been experiencing several issues with the software (I'm working using the trial version).

  • Couple of days ago the software would crash every time I would use the color panel (this is a grayscale file). Eventually it stopped happening.
  • Now I have two problems:
    • The main one is that when I try to open my file, the layers panel won't show any information or visual about any layer. Not only this, but when I try to click on them or change its visibility nothing happens. It is as if it wouldn't recognize the file. Sometimes it would work out of nowhere, but I've been waiting several hours and nothing.

    • Second, if I try to close the software and tabs, Designer just stops responding therefore I have to force it to quit.

This is very frustrating considering I've lost hours of work while I was seriously considering buying this product. I hope this issue can be resolved.

Looking forward to a solution.

Hi Mr. Ortiz
Thanks for the file, I've passed it onto development to investigate and see if they're able to bring the file back to life.

They've said that one of the commands in the application is getting stuck due to the amount of groups inside groups - I could count a group that was 28 levels deep! Whilst the application shouldn't get stuck it it always good practice to try and avoid this level of nest - if only for practicality when you need to edit it.

Hey Sean,

Thanks so much for the response. Question, should I then promote them to layers? And if i do this will it still be a vector file?

Any recommendation will be deeply appreciated!

Groups and Layers are fine - just try to avoid having a structure like this below. A few groups inside groups should generally not be an issue - but having it 28 levels deep is not good. It is this that is causing the file issues right now - in-fact when I was creating that layout that was causing me a lot of slowdown and beachballing.

Nests this deep also makes the file incredibly difficult for editing for yourself if you need to change anything at a later date!

Hey Sean,

Would it be possible for you folks to compile the groups into one layer and send the document back? I was wandering if you could at least save part of it.

Thanks again!

Hi Mr. Ortiz,

Thanks for getting back to us. One of the developers was able to remove nest of groups in your document using a debug build and was able to resave your document. I've attached it below - if you want me to remove it after you've downloaded just let me know. :)
