B67 Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 Hi, I purchased Affinity Photo yesterday and installed it on my Macbook air. No problems by the installation and the software is working well but when I leave it's no longer possible to open it again and I have to recharge the soft again. Could ypu help me about this problem ? Thank's. Quote
R C-R Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 What do you mean by "leave"? Are you actually quitting the app or maybe just clicking on the red window control button to close the main workspace window? If it is the latter, the app is still running but there is no open window so it looks like it has quit. This sounds like you are running it off of a .dmg, which is a disk image, something which acts like a disk but is just software and it will disappear when you log out or shut down or eject the 'disk'. Quote Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6 Affinity Designer 2.5.5 | Affinity Photo 2.5.5 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.5 | Beta versions as they appear. I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Yes I think you are right about my problem but what else could I do to install my application otherwise ? Quote

To install an application on Mac that is delivered as a DMG file you: Open the DMG file. Drag the application into the Applications folder Close or unmount the DMG file. That's standard MAC handling for such applications, I believe. While AP is open as in your screenshot, on the Dock right click on the AP icon & in the Options submenu that pops up choose "Keep in Dock." Quit (keyboard shortcut: CMD-Q) AP. Do not click on the close button at the top left of the AP window. When next you want to use AP, double-click on its Dock icon. B67 Posted May 1, 2020 Author Posted May 1, 2020 Thank you all for your tips ! I had pined the application to the dock, but in fact I thought it was a bit strange not to be able to close it with closing button. Closing by CMD-Q is OK so my problem is resolved. I wish you all a nice day ! Quote

I wish you all a nice day ! For some Mac apps, including the Affinity ones, closing their open window(s) is not the same as quitting them. For example, launch Apple's TextEdit app & then close the empty document window that automatically appears, using File > Close, the CMD-W keyboard shortcut, or the window close button. Note that the second menubar icon immediately to the right of the Apple menubar item still says "TextEdit," & the other menubar items are still those for TextEdit. This means TextEdit is still running, just without any open document windows. B67 Posted May 1, 2020 Author Posted May 1, 2020 Thank you for all this clarifications ! I'm an Apple user since 2011 and there's always something to learn :) ! Quote
R C-R Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 Another tip: open apps use memory & other system resources even when they have no open windows, so you can improve performance by quitting any that you do not need to use for a while. In your screenshot, note the tiny dots below seven of the apps in the Dock. This means they are all still running, so for example if you have no immediate need to use the 3 Microsoft apps, VLC, or Firefox, quitting them will free up more resources for AP. A quick way to do that is to right-click on their Dock icons & choose "Quit" from the popup menu. If you set "Keep in Dock" for them, you can launch them whenever the need arrises.
