I am using Designer 1.8.3 on a late 2019 well-equipped 16" MacBook Pro running MacOS 10.15.4.

Using "Command + ' " does not allow me to toggle "Show Grid" on and off.  I have to go to the View menu and manually enable it.

Other shortcuts on the View menu (Show Guide and Show Rulers) do work properly.

When using the shortcut keystrokes for Show Guide and Show Rulers, the View menu is highlighted briefly with each keystroke.  And, those are googled on and off.  It does not become highlighted when using the keystrokes for Show Grid.

Hi markomatic,

I've tried on my Catalina machine (only have access to an 2011 iMac with GB keyboard) and it is functioning for me. I tried switching to US keyboard layout and app language and that was still functioning correctly. Does the shortcut for Show Grid display under the view menu? You don't have any other applications running that might be 'eating' the Cmd+' shortcut do you? For example none of the Keyboard Shortcuts in System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts?

Sean:

Thank you.  Before I read your response, I uninstalled and re-installed AD.  And, the CMD' shortcut worked for a short period of time.  Then, it stopped working.

Yes, "Show Grid" is still in the "View" menu.  The "Show Grid" shortcut is preset in AD Preferences as  CMD' .   Thanks for advice on looking at Apple System Prefs - I found a shortcut there and disabled it.  But, a very strange thing happened - the CMD+ toggled the Show Grid on and off.  Previously, that shortcut enlarged document size.  (CMD-  still reduced the doc size.)  CMD' had no function, even though it was still showing as the shortcut.

In AD Preferences, I selected "reset" and CMD+ returned to enlarging docs.  CMD' still does not work.

I uninstalled and reinstalled AD once again.  The CMD' shortcut still does not work.

In AD Preferences, I removed and added a a new shortcut for Show Grid.  It did not work.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Same problem here: CMD apostrophe does nothing. No OS shortcuts interfering. Shows on the menu, works from the menu, but the keystroke does nothing whatsoever.

I created a shortcut for View | Grid (CTRL OPT CMD apostrophe) and it works fine. I tried to reset that to CMD apostrophe and it refuses to acknowledge the keystrokes. The field simply remains highlighted and empty. However, adding any other combination of modifier keys (SHIFT, CTRL, OPT, one, two, or all three) with CMD works.

Seems to me the app's refusal to accept they keystrokes to create the shortcut is a clue.

@markomatic Note that, for me, the custom shortcut CTRL OPT CMD apostrophe works perfectly.

Same problem on Win10, AD 1.90.
I found a solution.
For me, 2 predefined AD shortcuts were interfering.
Preferences > Shortcuts > Designer - View
Ctrl + ' => Show/Hide Grid
Ctrl + 4 => Zoom 800%

On my french keyboard, ' and 4 are on the same key.

The second shortcut was taking over the first, by default.
I had to suppress the Ctrl + 4 shortcut to make the first one work.
