I'd like to "trim" a series a of open curves where they intersect with a perpendicular curve/edge.
If I use the Divide operation, the open curves become closed. I would like them to remain open.
The other Boolean operations do not achieve the results either.

Is there a better way to perform this task? Please refer to the attached image.

Hi toompat,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
Affinity apps do not support boolean operations between lines and shapes, only between shapes, thus all lines are closed automatically when you perform a boolean operation. If you want to keep them as lines you have to create a node (with the lines selected) where they intersect the rectangle (or other object or guide used as reference only) then break the line(s) on that node with the Node tool and delete the part you don't want.

You could also clip them in a transparent rectangle (no fill, no stroke)

Or if using Affinity Designer use the Vector Crop Tool to do what (I think) amounts to the same thing without having to create the rectangle as a separate step:
