pencilmachine Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Hey all, I have tried finding an answer but couldn't so I hope posting a new question is ok.... I am trying to take a drawing i have done that is larger (say 1000x1000) and reduce it down (say to100x100) to make a pixel art image of. I know I can just create a new document and paste the original image and shrink it down. Then just start painting over it with the pixel brush. BUT, when you shrink it down it's very aliased and blurry. In Photoshop I can just select the transform tool and choose nearest neighbor, so when i shrink it down it will keep the pixels un aliased and be alot farther along in the process. I'm curious if there is a way to do this in affinity photo? Hopefully this makes sense Thanks in advance for your help Quote
walt.farrell Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums. Have you tried using the "nearest neighbor" resampling option when using Document > Resize Document? pencilmachine Posted April 28, 2020 Author Posted April 28, 2020 I haven’t tried that yet. I did try importing the image into the properly sized document then changing to nearest neighbor in preferences but I couldn’t even resize the image after. It may have just froze on me. I will try resizing the document and changing to nearest neighbor. Thanks Quote

pencilmachine Posted April 28, 2020 Author Posted April 28, 2020 Thanks for the suggestion Walt. Unfortunately this method doesn't work. I have tried of few different methods and it is still very aliased. Here is what I have tried My original document is not the correct dimensions to resize. So i cropped it so it would resize properly. When i resize the document with nearest neighbor it makes the image unusable. just giant pixels. I tried copying that section of the image out of the original document and creating a new document form the clipboard (which changes it to 96 dpi from 300? why it does that is for another day) and when i resize that document using nearest neighbor it is still very aliased. and i have tried just creating a document of the smaller size I need and pasting the larger image and just transforming it the size of the document which is of course very blurry. Is there possibly any other methods to do this? I know it's not photoshop and I am expecting it to do things PS is doing and that may be unreasonable but I really want to switch my workflow from adobe to affinity and this is kind of a big deal for me. Thanks for any help Quote
walt.farrell Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Can you share a sample document that demonstrates the problem? That might allow for better answers. pencilmachine Posted April 28, 2020 Author Posted April 28, 2020 Here are some examples of what is happening in PS vs AP. The end image 112x 80 is very small of course so i had to take screen grabs to show the results. But all these images besides the original images are that smaller size. As you can also see on the very bottom image, for some reason I am getting 2 different results doing the exact same process. Sometimes it absolutely pixelates the image and sometimes it is usable but is still very aliased. As you can see in the ps image, it's clean, not much aliasing going on. Still a tiny bit but much much better. Again, I know this is PS, So I may be expecting alot but I'm just curious if there is a way to achieve this in Affinity products. Thanks so much Quote
