Shapes and stroke: How do I replicate the attached image?

Recommended Posts

Hello! This is my first post to the forum.

I'm wondering how I could recreate the speech bubble below? I can draw a rectangle with a uniform stroke no problem but how do I get it be skewed like this with the tapering width on the stroke?

Does anyone know of any good tutorials out there that would show me this?

Thanks in advance!

Making a ‘W” pressure profile will get the stroke correct.

The halftone pattern was created by making an ellipse with a black to transparent gradient using the transparency tool and then using this website: https://xoihazard.com/tools/halftone/ to make the halftone, it’s a bit clunky menu wise but it makes nice halftones.

These were the settings I used on the site.

In addition to the advice above, you can also make a similar Halftone pattern with Photo by putting a Halftone Live Filter over a circle filled with a Grey-to-White Radial Gradient Fill.
You don’t get the same control as in the other software, and some tweaking is needed to get a nice pattern, but it’s not too much effort.
Attached is an example done entirely only in Photo. (I'm sure improvements could be made as it was done quickly.)

Just my subjective impression, but the undistorted text on the distorted/skewed bubble doesn't look very good.

is there a way to make the half tone transparent?

Set Opacity for this layer?

Hey! Opinions are very welcome! I don't consider myself a designer and am trying to get better so let me have it!

Do you think it should be skewed in the same direction? What do you think of the font? It's Mouse Memoirs from Google.

Again, I'm not too smart when it comes to the tools. I used the page that @firstdefence mentioned and it gave me a non-transparent file. I also tried the Halftone Live Filter that @GarryP mentioned and it too was not completely transparent.

Thanks again for the input!

From the website export as SVG you can turn the background off so you have only the halftone dots, this keeps it all vectors.

There is also a switch to have a transparentBG in the controls panel on that site, it’s under the color controls. Enabling this just saves a step in having to turn a background off.
