Mac Publisher: Group Parent moves while working on Child item

Scenario: Group open, I'm working on child elements. Sometimes, when I select child items to edit, the Parent becomes activated! This is problematic for obvious reasons. I need the parent to be unlocked to work on its child items.

Sometimes the User is forced to highlight the desired item in the layer studio, but sometimes freedom is granted to select the desired item right on the drawing board. I feel that this is inconsistent and harms smooth workflow.
