Missing characters

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am working on a publication in InDesign and now I wanted to try and do it in Publisher. So, I imported one of 26 in total 1 Ana AZESKA.rtf and created test.afpub. I noticed in Preflight panel that some text is missing missing chars.png. I attach the files needed for you to test it and see what's wrong.

NOTES:

  1. There are footnotes which I ignored and a table which is broken into text.
  2. The publication I work on in InDesign has 36 paragraph styles and 16 character styles. To be well organized I use folders which can't be acomplished using group styles in Publisher. So, I am asking you here, to consider adding folders to text syles.

Thank you.

I'm not sure if I have the same problem, but it seems similar or perhaps reated, so I post it here.

I just made the switch from Mac to Windows. Opening an Affinity Publisher document in Windows gave me lots of Missing Characters error messages in Preflight. Thesse errors did not appear on the Mac version. As you can see in the screenshots, many accents are misplaced. When i edit the words manually (to correct them), it seems that the accents have been placed as ia separate symbol, meaning that I have to hit delete twice in order to delete the letter and the accent.

I am useing:
Windows: 10Pro: Affinity Publisher 1.8.3.641
Mac OS Morjave (10.14.4): Affinity Publisher 1.8.3

@Aurelio Is it possible for you to attach that document and any fonts that are used? You can use this link if you'd prefer to keep it private

Thanks

Yes sure. It's a whole catalogue but I extracted one page so you can have a look and see if you can reproduce the error. It seems already that it has something to do with the font. I use the App "Fontbase" to activate the fonts in the System. If I don't activate the font and Affinity loads a default font like Arial or so, these error messages do not appear.

I've got recently similar problem with .doc files from Mac opened on Windows, and part of the accented or special characters were in unicode and produced errors graphically like the separate accent or visible with the spellchecker red wave if it wasn't so obvious.
Opening them in LibreOffice corrected the problem or saving as RTF.

Mac/Windows and encoding is always difficult and easily give errors.

@Petar Petrenko

If I open and save your original document to RTF with Libre Office, I can import without problem.

Since I'm having the same problem in ID with recent Words files from OS X (I don't know how those files were created),  I don't know if the problem come from AP. But the way Libre Office handle those files seems to be the solution.

Thanks Wosven. So, it comes to my mind that A-Team should work a little bit harder on DOC(X) import filter.
