Synchronised brush not applying to pen tool

Recommended Posts

When I try to draw using the pen tool the brush I had previously synchronised as default is not applying. I have made sure [Use Fill] is ticked on but it makes no difference. I'm drawing a lot of shapes in quick succession and having to adjust each one really takes up a lot of time.

Attached is a detailed guide of the issue and the steps I took.

Is there some reason you think that the defaults for one tool (brush) should apply to an entirely different tool (pen)? Have you found that in the Help, or in a Tutorial?

According to videos like this one, they should synchronise, Walt.

As per my post I'm talking about the brush style, a whole section of which includes "Pens", to me it does make sense that a pen style should be applicable to a pen tool.

Edit: and there is no button that says "Synchronise Default to Brush Style", the button clearly outlines it's for synchronising all defaults from selection, the description of which does include pens.

Cheers Walt

Where did you find anything that "outlines" the button as syncing all defaults, or a description that says brushes includes pens?

@R C-R, lots of sources, like this quote of yours, that outlines how the [brush] stroke style mentioned in step 5 and synchronized in step 7, should be the one you get in step 9.

Nowhere in that post did I mention the word "brush." Note also that my step 8 said "Draw a new shape. It doesn't matter if it is with the Pen tool or using one of the predefined shapes."

Or this video I linked earlier that shows the brush style being preserved after Synchronising.

If you watch it again, you will see that everything drawn is done with the Pen Tool.

It may not be as obvious as it could be but each brush preset has its own built-in default stroke shape attributes. As you have discovered, syncing with any other shape does not affect those built-in stroke attributes, although it will affect the color of the brush stroke.
