Scaling the text frames and not the font size when changing page size

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have a problem with the 'Rescale' option.

I have a 400 pages book in Publisher

I set up the Master page with the text frames snapped to margins.

I have all the text defined by different text styles.

I want to change the size of the whole doc pages. I had a 6x9 in and want to change to 6.69x9.61in (169.9x244 mm).

When I don't choose the Rescale option in the Spread Set up menu, the font size remains the same, but all the text frames too, and I have to adjust all of them manually, so they are right with the margins.

When I choose Rescale in Spread Setup, it adjust the text frames to the margins but also rescale the font size, even when I have it defined in Text Styles. The Text styles remain the same (i.e. Body = 10 pt) but the document font size is changed (i.e Body+ = 10.7 pt). I have to go again by each paragraph to reapply the text style and make the font the size I want it.

How could I change the page size, without changing the font size BUT making the text frames stay on the margins?

Thank you!

If I were trying that, I think I would use the Smart Master functionality.

  1. In your existing Master Page, go to the Layers panel and give the text frame a name.
  2. Change the page sizes with rescale set off.
  3. Create a new Master Page, with the new spread size, with the Text Frame set as you want it, and give it the same name in the Layers panel.
  4. Apply the new Master Page to the document pages, replacing the current master. The content should migrate from the old-size text frames into the new ones.
