When viewing a photo in Google Photos on the web, just press Shift+D or select Download from the three bar menu at the top right. If you want to select multiple images from the thumbnail view, click the ticks in the top left of the image thumbnails, and press Shift+D or select Download from the three bar menu at the top right.
