Scientific Measurement Tool

Recommended Posts

Greetings!

Would like to voice my desire for some scientific measurement tools that would be useful.  The ability to measure the length of features in an image would great.  We would need a place to input number of pixels per micron based on our image (for example, a 20x microscope objective might be 0.61 microns/pixel).  Once the calibration is entered, we need a ruler tool (similar to the line tool) to tell us how many microns there are between points A and B.

Additional tools would also be useful, such as a scale bar tool (just tell the software to draw a line of inputted length in microns – say 100 um – with or without a text label in one of the four corners of the screen).  The more options there are here, the more useful it is, such as line size and height, text size, font, and color, etc.

CS5 (and I believe photoshop) offers the ability to save user inputted microscope calibrations, along with resulting measurements.  So, if I only use a 20x objective, I can just pop open an image, select the calibration, and start measuring.  It will generate a list of my measurements which I can save / export.

Thanks!

Before I retired (in 2007, before the days of Affinity Photo), I would have found a tool useful, but I doubt that I would do so now. I can see that for microscopy such a tool would be very useful, as well as for other professions.
