Very large file size for basic flyer

Recommended Posts

I just completed a flyer for a client. A basic 8.5x11 flyer with two graphics added in, a 4.1mb shutter stock image as well as a custom header (1.3 mb), both of them copy/pasted. The shutter stock image is masked by a rounded corner rectangle.

The file is 147.5 mb which seems quite large for such a simple document. With the exception of the two images it is mostly black text on white background. Even at 300 dpi this seems quite large.

Posting on this again. I've done a second flyer, again pretty basic and 8.5x11. The problem seems to be the use of three images in the design. Each of the images is 4mb or less.

The file is 87.8 mb and while export to jpg works pretty well (file is 8mb) exporting to pdf does not work without a spinning beach ball delay (20 seconds) before I can choose the print preset then another 40 seconds for the export to complete with a 16 mb file.

By comparison a nearly identical flyer (same images used) produced in Pages is 7.2 mb and produces a pdf of 7.1 mb with no delay at all.

Any ideas?

...and do you have history saving turned on? That will potentially expand the file massively... Failing that, we can certainly take a look at the file for you and give you some advice? If you wanted to send anything to us then send it to support@seriflabs.com and we'll delete it again after giving you some advice :)

Thanks,

Matt
