Claudio60
This is an old "issue" started with version 1.7 and never solved: working with jpeg files the file size has become 3 times bigger compared to 1.6.5.135 when saved in .aphoto format and about 2/3 bigger when exported in jpeg (even if you just open the photo and save or export it untouched). Here are the previous threads' links related to this issue and a screenshot I made today using 1.8.3.641.
Granddaddy
The huge size of afphoto files seems to be a feature rather than a bug. The huge increase in file size was said to have resulted inadvertently when the afphoto file format was changed to accommodate Publisher features. Serif has not commented further, so I don't think it is something we should expect to be "fixed." I've made additional comments at: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/109395-version-18-a-rant/&do=findComment&comment=592338 https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/109690-afphoto-files-sizes-6x-just-open-and-save/&do=findComment&comment=593269 https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/108445-affinity-photo-file-sizes-much-smaller-with-ver-18/&do=findComment&comment=586243 https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/109471-use-aphoto-18-to-reduce-huge-size-of-aphoto-17-files/&do=findComment&comment=591978 As for your exported jpg being more than twice the size of the original jpg, that could result from exporting at a very high quality setting compared to the quality of the original jpg. I usually export to jpg at quality 90, which yields jpgs about half the size of the jpg files produced by my Panasonic FZ1000. That camera does not have a specific quality setting, just a menu selection for choosing quality over small file size. No numbers involved at all. I've found the exported files from APhoto are more than adequate for making 8x10 prints. I'll guess that there could be endless discussions about that. On the other hand, exporting to jpg at quality 90 for a jpg from an iPhone 6s yields an exported jpg of almost exactly the same size as the original jpg. I think this implies the iPhone saves its jpg files at a quality equivalent to the quality 90 that I use for APhoto exports. Claudio60
Hi Granddaddy and tks for your answer, I also fear this is something that will hardly be fixed, but yesterday I received an email from Serif (pls read the last post from Patrick Connor at the link below), so I decided to reopen the discussion. Regarding the size of the exported jpeg, AP was set at quality 100%. Thank you again for your detailed explanations.
