Michael W.
So I made one of these topics 2 days ago saying the apps never opened or asked for my key code. After playing around with it today I reinstalled the apps and was able to open them and type in the code. However I downloaded them to my desktop and there are a tons of things that come with it that completely cover my desktop. When I moved them into a file then the apps wouldn't open up so I reinstalled them to my desktop again and left all the nonsense on there and now it is working. Is there a way to download somewhere that wont make my computer look like a mess and so I can still open the apps.
walt.farrell
Downloading to your desktop is OK, but I prefer to use the Downloads folder (each Windows user has one). What's important is where you actually install them. When you install from scratch, the installer will suggest a default location: c:\program files\affinity\<application name> and it is best to leave that alone, unless you really know what you're doing. My suggestion would be to have Windows uninstall the applications, then to reinstall them and leave the install location alone. If you do change the install location, it is imperitive that each Affinity application goes into its own directory. That is, you will break things if, for example, you try to install both Photo and Designer into c:\Affinity but it would be OK to install Photo into c:\Affinity\Photo and Designer into c:\Affinity\Designer. Or it would be OK to install Photo into c:\Photo and Designer into c:\Designer. But it's best to leave the install location alone when the installer suggests one Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. Michael W.
So I did that at one point but it wouldn't open from my downloads folder. It seemed to only open when I had them each install on my desktop.I can give it another try. I'm just glad that I got it to work but I don't want my desktop to look this hectic. I moved all those random things that came with the apps into a folder that was still on my desktop but then the apps woouldn't open. It seems like all of them have to be laid out like that. wonderings
Yikes! I have never seen a Windows Application installer do anything like that. Generally it is small package folder with what it needs. Can you make a new folder on your desktop and download to that? As for installing I agree with Walt, just let the installer do what it suggests. No, you can't move things around after it's installed. You need to install it in the right place Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. A lot of them seem to be Windows shortcuts (more or less equivalent to Mac Aliases), which basically are just pointers to the applications, not the applications themselves (thus the curved arrows on the bottom left corner of their icons). Many are document files, which most users organize into folders based on document type, projects, etc, & usually not stored on the desktop to reduce the clutter. Quite a few are support files for one or another of the Affinity apps, but as already mentioned if you let the installer use the default install location, you won't have them cluttering up your desktop. Agreed! the right click sort options might be helpful here. Quote AP, AD & APub user, running Win10
