Kyuzo
Hello, I'm a longtime PS user who would love to dump it. I need to be able to bring photos of my paintings into AP and skew them into the original aspect ratio of the painting. All of my work needs to be shot from an angle b/c glare, especially on the pieces which are on bare copper. Example: An iPhone snap of a painting will always need to be skewed (Perspective Tool?) because of glare on the panel. I need to be able to skew the image back to its original dimensions, for instance 9" x 12". PS makes this really simple, via Fixed Ratio Selection. I hope AP has a workaround that can be a preset or done on the fly. Any help is much appreciated. A before and after example is below. The original painting is 18" x 18". Thanks, Richard
firstdefence
Not sure about the preset etc but what if you created a shape such as a square or rectangle, filled with black, that had the dimensions of the painting i.e. 18in x 18in if you reduced the shapes opacity to 50% then used the perspective tool to adjust the painting to fit to the shape and then use the crop tool to crop out the transparent pixels. Kyuzo
Thanks firstdefence. Have not tried creating shapes, but I like your approach. I assume that after creating the shape I can position it. Once that's done I could set guides to it?
firstdefence
Just made a short video on the idea, Ill just export it then upload. firstdefence
I made a square sized it to 18in x 18in filled it with black and reduced it’s opacity to 50% then made it an asset so that I can just drag out that shape pre-made. lacerto 1 Quote iMac 27" 2019 Ventura 13.6, iMac 27" Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher V1 & V2, Adobe, Inkscape, Vectorstyler, Blender, C4D, Sketchup + more... firstdefence
If I can work out a way to automate it I will, I’m sure some of the other people will like this challenge too. firstdefence
I think if automation needs to be involved a consistent image needs to be produced i.e. a camera set up and same size images placed in the same place, so a kind of mini studio. Having said that why make work for yourself when a bit of planning can save you a ton of post editing. I have done photography of objects behind glass and the way I got rid of glare and reflection was to... Setup/create an ambient diffused light source, i.e. A white sheet over a window, or a cloudy day Get a large piece of cardboard (Think the side of a 65” TV box) or some flat surface and paint it with chalkboard paint (because it’s a nice matt black) or any kind of matt black paint this acts like a neutraliser of sorts so the highlights don’t show. Then cut a hole in it for the camera lens to poke through a bit and obviously mounted on a tripod or a stack of books; something to stabilise the camera at height An iPhone can be set up this way just cut a smaller hole and remember to turn off flash. Always take images without any flash, you can tweak exposure post edit and it’s much easier to do that than have to remove distortions. It’s better to underexpose than overexpose. A few test shots to get the best position are needed but once to have found a good spot you can take consistently good images. Another option is to try using a polariser filter over the lens or in addition to the setup above.
