I just purchased affinity photo for my MacBook Pro, I am just learning the basics, there are some nice tutorials online, when attempting using the inpainting tool brush, somehow my brush does not hightlight in red, therefore I am unable to see what I am doing, Can anyone please comment on this subject, thanks in advance.

Are you maybe brushing on an Image layer? If yes, right click on it and choose Rasterize.

Or, in a more elegant way, you could add a new Pixel layer on top of the image layer. Then, you take the Inpainting tool and, in the contextual toolbar, you select Current Layer & Below (in stead of Current Layer). The inpainting will now be non-destructive.
