Impossible to change List text formatting

Recommended Posts

Trying to format a numbered list.  In the paragraph panel, bullets & numbering, panel... the field 'Text:' cannot be selected. See screen recording, note the history record gets populated at every attempt to select also. Once in a while it will work (wasn't able to capture) but only a single character can be inserted or a single backspace performed before it unselects once more.

Also related - I cannot figure out how to have a mixed number and letter list, i.e. top level is 1,2 etc. next level is a,b etc.?

I struggle, too. When I type a dot (.) in between circled items and move the cursor with the arrow key either left or right then this dot gets deleted. Quite odd that moving the cursor is able at all to delete any glyph.

That looks just like the behavior I have been seeing with the separator field in the TOC studio. I wonder if there is something wrong with text inputs like that with the dropdown to insert a character.

Do you have the Paragraph Studio docked to one of the sides? I have found that, when I am having similar trouble with the TOC studio, I can drag the studio out so that it becomes a floating studio, then I am able to use it for a time.

For your second question, you need 2 paragraph styles with 2 different levels and 2 different types of list (a paragraph style with a List level 1 for type  "1, 2, 3…" and a paragraph style with a List level 2 for type  "a, b, c…)

Does it mean it needs manually style assignment for each line where 1, 2, 3 shall become a, b, c?
And also it sounds that 1a, 1b, 1c, 2a, 2b ... isn't possible at all with the auto-numbering option, correct?

This is how I solved the problem for now.  I really hope this isn't the only option - it's too clunky.

For having the preceding "number" in the next list, you need to add \1 or \2, etc. depending of the levels of your lists

And to automatically indent use the next level of list for the next paragraph, I think there's an option to do it when adding a tab at the begining of a paragraph, but I disabled it and don't know where it is… If someone remember this and can help… shortcuts below

Thank you, Wosven! You are appearently familiar auto-numbering. Very different to me: I simply had the imagination the list levels would be detected automatically, caused by any customizable glyph within the list text, e.g. at easiest a soft line break, or any unused glyph combination like "." followed by "," etc. – but that of cause would need additional UI items.
