Affinity Publisher Customer Beta - 1.8.4.648

Recommended Posts

Status: Beta
Purpose: Stability and General Testing
Requirements: Purchased Affinity Publisher
Mac App Store: Not submitted
Download: Download
Auto-update: Available

---

Hi,

We are pleased to announce that Affinity Publisher Customer Beta 1.8.4.648 is now available as a download from the link above.

If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.

This beta is an incremental update to the 1.8.3 version recently released to all customers (though it installs parallel to the release). We recommend that you use this beta in preference to the store version if you are affected by any of the issues listed below.

---

We have a number of fixes to tools when working across multiple spreads:

  • Allow immediate dragging of objects on other spreads
  • Constraining while dragging objects between spreads now works correctly
  • When dragging between spreads, snapping is now performed on the target spread candidates
  • Dragging objects between spread using the Focal Point handle now works correctly
  • Fixes for dragging curve nodes across multiple spreads
  • Fixes for 'restart drag' when translating across spreads
  • Fixed issue with auto-panning in the text tool

Plus miscellaneous updates and fixes:

  • Improved performance of PDF import (~40% faster in the test case)
  • Improved performance of text when rendering text
  • Fixed vector export of text occasionally filling characters

I love all these improvement in performance. Publisher is a powerhouse and use it for a lot of production work. The only issue for me, and it's a big one, is that without Designer and Photo being simultaneously updated I lose StudioLink - something I can't live without. So the choice of better/incrementally fixed/faster or fully a working StudioLink environment is greatly weighted towards the latter. (You have brought us this crack cocaine and we are now addicts!). I know this has been asked before about finding an interim solution but will ask again. Or perhaps more frequent updates to the store version.

But to reiterate, I want to applaud this amazing progress, and thank you.

Hi abarkalo,

We've recently relaxed the requirement and StudioLink should now work across patch level releases, i.e. you should find a mix of 1.8.3 and 1.8.4 betas should work together. If you do try it, and they don't, please let us know.

OK but they all need to be beta? Right now 1.8.4 Publisher beta doesn't enable StudioLink with 1.8.3 store versions. I guess I should download the older betas?

Yes, the betas work together, and the retail versions work together.

As @AdamW says, although it's true the earlier ADe 1.8.3.x betas and APh 1.8.3.y betas don't run anymore (for owners of MAS release versions because of the MAS check for an "valid build" in the 1.8.3 betas) the existence of the betas in applications on your Mac should enable the personas in APu beta

I have re-downloaded the betas and now I get this - see attached image. I bought APu directly and Designer and Photo from the Mac App Store - so don't know how to get a product key.

Ok I don't think you need to run Affinity Photo beta 1.8.3, as long as you ran it at least once during the 1.8.3 beta. Try Publisher 1.8.4 beta now Photo beta is reinstalled... Is the Photo persona enabled or not?
