Please take a few minutes to be more specific for any posts in the bugs forum, this ^^^ is more of a feedback post. The relatively small QA team report issues back to the team that are specific. Are you meaning all non-English documentation or some specific ones? Perhaps all this needs is for you to point to previous posts unless there is a significant change in 1.8.x since 1.7.x.

The team should know what exists in the engliush versions and is missig in the localizations!

For what it's worth, there are also differences and/or missing information between the English (UK) and English (US) versions of the Help; it's not just the non-English versions that need some work. I think I've reported the ones I've encountered.

Also wrong (see the screenshot): ”wechseln – den verschiedenen Arbeitsbereichen“. Better: ”wechseln, den verschiedenen Arbeitsbereichen“. Correct: ”Personas, den verschiedenen Arbeitsbereichen […], wechseln.“

BTW: Persona-Leiste is much better than Personaleiste (people read Personal-eiste) and Designer-Persona is better than Designer Persona.

Schlimm genug, dass immer wieder falsch oder schlecht übersetzt wird. Da sind die Kleinigkeiten der US-Version Pillepalle.

Please take a few minutes to be more specific (...) Are you meaning all non-English documentation or some specific ones?

An example I have in mind is the "Lock Children" which appears not to be found in the Help, neither offline (because of the app-language different than macOS language??) ...

1200291714_helpmissinglockchildren1.jpg.d29471fe8d89e1c55ea6899509f63561.jpg

... nor in the online Help, set to English:

14380751_helpmissinglockchildren.jpg.2abc20c81c8ba2071fa566b38c66f3c5.jpg 232869046_helpmissinglock.jpg.3293337189786f97ba3f94b31ac71d00.jpg514238077_helpmissingchildren.jpg.3e8d65ba2c9b3aafe4640375738f4b50.jpg

Another sample is the Colour Panel + its rich written info which just is not available in other languages than English (regardless of UK or US), even though it seems to become loaded when calling the page but quickly hidden while rendering:

https://affinity.help/designer/de.lproj/index.html?page=pages/Panels/clrPanel.html?title=Das Panel "Farbe"

1244838953_helpcolorpanelenglish.thumb.jpg.5969865e00702201e193e4819689b5dc.jpg

In this sample for instance the hint about the subtle, clickable UI item ("C") to toggle between Opacity & Noise is entirely missing in the German help (and probably in others than English, too). That might cause users not to be able to find the Noise slider when searching for it – or even never to get aware about the wunderful color noise feature in Affinity.

So, the lack in the Help localisation of missing screenshots for some situations where explaining text is missing, too, is an odd pity, because the info does exist in the Help resources but simply is not given or even becomes hidden by a secret power. Maybe at least that part of missing help content could be solved 'easily' (without much work) just by not-hiding existing and loaded content. In case a user will notice help content in English even as a entirely unknown language she/he will be aware at least about this existing content ...

Concerning missing screenshots it was answered earlier as a known issue due to the number of additional, localized screenshots required. Nevertheless those pics could be helpful in other help languages even if showing an English UI, than not to mention the info at all.

Here's another thread, pointing to some others about missing help content:

“Interface Visual Reference” is fundamentally needed to understand the apps. But after all the years it is still missing in most languages. You can lose confidence in Serif because there are not even a few minutes for basics.

Well, some changes in Affinity Help, BUT (another two months) without correcting the missing links. Strange! 😞

Foreigners have paid for their app and have been waiting for a complete version since years. Reporting does not make sense. We are out.

Just two more spots which might wanted to get fixed in the Help:
(not explicitly AD related)

1.) The missing screenshot + quite a few text of "Color Panel" I had reported as being missing in the German help but existing in English: It exists in the Help for APhoto but is still missing for APub:

https://affinity.help/photo/de.lproj/index.html?page=pages/Panels/clrPanel.html?title=Das Panel "Farbe" (nur für die Photo Persona)

2.) A not fitting image example for "Transforming". It shows after/before flipping an image while its image caption mentions scaling:

@Pauls

Please make sure all these issues in the posts above are reported (or bumped) to the docs team, thanks

One more issue with the non-English help: it seems the content exists but the link in the sidebar is missing. So the user might never see this content. Which is a pity in particular of its fundamentally info. Note that this is the only place where an entire UI screen is shown + described and where terms like Panel, Toolbar etc. are shown in their context, since in their specific chapters they are only single, cutout icons.

https://affinity.help/photo/English.lproj/index.html?page=pages/Workspace/interface.html?title=Interface Visual Reference

This concerns all 3 apps in all non-English help versions. A fix should be easy because the content exists, it's just that the user can't see/know the URL, e.g. German in AfPhoto:
https://affinity.help/photo/de.lproj/index.html?page=pages/Workspace/interface.html?title=Interface Visual Reference

Note that user can only achieve this URL and content in the wanted language via these 4 steps:

  1. viewing the according content in English
  2. Pressing the copy-link buttom at the bottom of the sidebar
  3. Pasting the copied link into the browser
  4. Changing in the URL manually "English" into "de" (... the wanted language abbr.)

Without manually adjusting the URL a non-English users gets only this content:

@Patrick Connor, @Pauls

I also wonder if certain UI chapters near the bottom of the navigation sidebar would be found easier / read earlier if they were placed near "User Interface":

the content exists

(and only the UI screenshots are in the wrong language, which is not really a problem and should not be the reason that the link is missing)

was reported again and again

Edited: Thanks for some corrections! 👍 But not sure why we have correct dashes but still no quotation marks and so on. 👋
