mbfjrd Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 When using an imported idml that contains inline shapes (such as a check box), I get an error: the shape greatly reduces in size if I copy/paste it. I have many InDesign documents with checkboxes included within the text box. They are simple squares. When I import an idml of a sample file into Publisher to work with it, I find that a checkbox becomes very small when I copy it and then paste it somewhere else within the text box. This is easily reproduced in a fresh InDesign document. Simply draw a small shape (square/circle/star), copy it into a text box. (Don't need to add any text.) Then export as idml; import into Publisher, and with the text tool select the inline shape, then copy / paste next to itself within the text box. Shapes do not act like this when outside of a text box. They seem to be fine. Also, this problem does not happen in a fresh Publisher file. If I'm doing something wrong, I'd like to know. To show the problem, I've made a set of indd/idml/afpub files + PDFs. I'm using Affinity 1.8.3. on Mac Os 10.12.6. Thank you! Jeremy Bohn Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 If you use the text tool to highlight, copy and paste the inline box then you get the resize problem. If you use the selection tool to select the box, then paste it into the text box, there is no problem. It's something to do with the text box, because I can draw a new shape and paste it into that box, highlight it and copy/paste again and I get the same resize problem. If I copy and paste that text box into a new document, it's the same. If I copy and paste the contents only into a new text box, all the boxes are smaller, but any new shapes I paste in don't have the problem. Quote

I wonder if this size reduction in APub may be related to different settings in APub vs. ID, – as far I remember in InDesign you don't set the size of an inline object relative to the text size, but you choose between text/graphic/none when adding an object, correct? – To me with your .idml this resizing in APub happens only with the pin setting "Scale to: No Scale", while with the 4 other settings a copied item doesn't change its size when pasted. 20 hours ago, Jeremy Bohn said: If you use the text tool to highlight, copy and paste the inline box then you get the resize problem. Jeremy, although it makes a difference with what tool an inline object gets selected, I can't get your result of a "resize problem". Isn't it a matter of varying properties in the pinning panel? Note that there always is a setting, which you only see with no object selected. As soon you select an object then it will either have no options for pinning (and no setting in the panel) or will have a custom setting for the selected object which may vary from that with no object selected. Jeremy Bohn Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 Also note that those boxes have a different type: [IDML] (Rectangle). Although I could get it to happen with a new box I created in Publisher and pasted it into the text box, so I think there's some property to that IDML text box that's messing it up. Quote

See screen recording. First, I click with the selection tool and copy the box, then a paste it next to the first box. Second, I highlight with the text tool, copy then paste. thomaso Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 Sorry, I had misunderstood your first post, I thought you were talking about APubs text frames in general, not about the particular frames in an .idml file. Another odd occurrence: With every copy/paste action the inline object gets smaller / and only the 1st item seems to be related to text size: idml textframe - pin inline.mov I also noticed in the meantime that this issue is *not* an attitude of the inline object from the .idml but of an idml text frame: The same issue occurs if I import just a text frame and use an Affinity shape to create the inline object. In such an idml text frame even this object shows the same odd behavior, whereas in a text frame created in Affinity it doesn't. Quote macOS 10.14.6 | MacBookPro Retina 15" | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1
