Three Angels Deaf Ministri Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 Enclosed is a photo shot of my work concerning the column issues. I need to move the 1st column's bottom up without forcing the other columns to do likewise. In other words does this software can do the independent column adjustment similar to Indesign? If so I need to know the trick to do it. Quote
Old Bruce Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 You would have to (probably) group the In This Issue: down to Fax: 888-888-8888 stuff and then have that group have Text Wrap turned on. That would force the text in the triple frame to float past the group. I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
Three Angels Deaf Ministri Posted April 8, 2020 Author Posted April 8, 2020 Appreciated your quick reply. Apparently, it didn't work. This page came from .pdf of Indesign converted to Affinity. I wish that Affinity works similar to Indesign in having independent columns that I can adjust the flow of the text. The "group" I need to change for next issues so it is imperative for me to be able to easily adjust the length of the text in a column without affecting the other columns in the same page. Hope you get it. Quote

It does, but you would do it as multiple linked Text Frames, arranged side-by-side, rather than 1 Text Frame with multiple columns. The setup is different, but the layout effect would be the same (flowing text) and offering more flexibility since each "column" could have a different height, width, etc. Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. Joachim_L Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 Not my day I guess. Still have no clue what Three Angels Deaf Ministri (what a name) wants to achieve. Something like in the attached image? Or do you need to insert column breaks? Quote ------ Windows 10 | i5-8500 CPU | Intel UHD 630 Graphics | 32 GB RAM | Latest Retail and Beta versions of complete Affinity range installed
Three Angels Deaf Ministri Posted April 8, 2020 Author Posted April 8, 2020 Thank you Walt and Joachim. "It does, but you would do it as multiple linked Text Frames, arranged side-by-side, rather than 1 Text Frame with multiple columns." Can you give me "walk with me" steps to accomplish it? Affinity tutorials are difficult for me to follow. It is difficult for me to read the captions and see the action at the same time. Quote
Old Bruce Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 Here is a file with Three Columns and one One Column text frame that is set to wrap the Three Column text. three columsn.afpub You may want to mess with the wrap settings for Top and Bottom of the One Column text frame. Three Angels Deaf Ministri Posted April 8, 2020 Author Posted April 8, 2020 Well, it looks like it is solved. I see there are two ways to do it. Thank you very much for your help! 😁 Joachim_L 1 Quote
walt.farrell Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 And here's one with 3 linked text frames acting as columns. I added column guides to help in placing them. 3-frames-as-columns.afpub Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU.
