Paul_uk_Lincoln Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 Hi there. New user but have just completed 2 online affinity photo iPad courses with Udemy and affinity revolutions. I am just getting use to the features but have come across a problem that I can’t find a solution to online. Can anyone help. I’m using the ipad pro 2020. Latest version of affinity photo installed. This is my problem. i import a photo, and select and area of that photo. I am able to copy and paste that onto another pixel layer any amount of times. That’s great. Deselect. I Then select a new area on the same original background photo. Marching ants appear as usual. when I try to copy this selection on to a new pixel layer, it won’t paste. Marching ants appear on blank pixel layer but no image. Have spent hours racking my brain. Is there a way to clear the copy and paste “memory” ? kind regards Quote
Paul_uk_Lincoln Posted April 8, 2020 Author Posted April 8, 2020 Issue appears to be with the freehand selection tool Quote

If so the layer created is an image layer and you cannot select pixels on that layer without first rasterising the layer. Layer options/rasterise. 3 hours ago, Paul_uk_Lincoln said: Have spent hours racking my brain. Is there a way to clear the copy and paste “memory” ? To get rid of the marching ants, long press with finger on screen and in the pop up menu tap Deselect. Quote M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen). The earlier selection will be included even though new layer is not selected. The workaround is to untick the new layers visibility box before refining the selection. Paul_uk_Lincoln Posted April 17, 2020 Author Posted April 17, 2020 Did you do that on the iPad version of affinity? I am not able to replicate that. Never have? IMG_0237.MP4 Quote

Yes it the iPad version. It appears to show two selected areas in refine but in reality only one is the refined selection. The other shows because the previously copied layer positioned above is still displaying. The output of selection works correctly ie only copies the new selection. Not a bug after all (just operator error on my part). 😁 Quote M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen).
