madmoose Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 Which is better for running Affinity Photo the iPad Air 2019 or the iPad Pro 10.5 inch 2017 Quote
DM1 Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 FYI Affinity photo works beautifully on the 10.5 pro. Don’t know about the Air. Quote M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen). madmoose Posted April 8, 2020 Author Posted April 8, 2020 Thanks for the heads up. I use it on both my iMacs but really haven't heard much about the 10.5 pro vs new air. It seems to be processor(air) vs ram and promotion(10.5 pro). I need a tablet and am not willing to spend for the new 11in pro. Quote
Cecil Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 I have the 2017 iPad Pro, 10.5. It is functioning well on AP. Depending on your age, vision, and need as professional or hobbyist, is IMHO the question. My biggest regret is not getting the 12.9 iPad. Budget matters but as I look back in time, the cost difference was not that great not to upgrade to 12.9. As I use iCloud and Google Drive, 256 GB would be more than adequate for my need. I use the Apple Pencil Gen 1 and painting is possible but the screen size is difficult for detail. My vision and age is partially to blame. I realized this when I used my sons 2018, 12.9. This is just my experience and yours will depend on personal expectations. Good luck. madmoose Posted April 8, 2020 Author Posted April 8, 2020 I definitely understand about older eyes. I am 67 so I have intimate knowledge of the squint factor. I have a very strong astigmatism and need all the help I can get. Quote

Brightness helps but make my eyes hurt so I struggle with the dimmer screen. I agree, 12.9 would be better, but less portable? Quote M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen).
