Request about PSD file type

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I used Photoshop over 20 years and considering to change my main work program into Affinity Photo.

But I found that I can only 'save' my work as '.afphoto' type. I couldn't choose PSD type in save menu. I could 'export' my work as PSD.

As we know, Photoshop and PSD file type is the standard and I need to use PSD for co-work with another people. So I think this is slightly annoying that I need to 'export' every time.

How about to add a selection step of file type in 'save' window, and add PSD into the types? Please consider it!

Thanks!

For new files, you will have to Export.

However, if you have started by Opening a PSD file, there is an option you could set in Preferences, on the General page, that will allow you to Save the file after you have made changes:

Please recognize the importance of that warning. If you intend to exchange files with other users you need to remember that there are aspects of PSD that Affinity does not fully support, because it is not truly an interchange format between applications. It is a proprietary Adobe format, which is only partially documented, and which changes in format frequently.

For example, text that you save in PSD format will be rasterized and will become uneditable by your colleagues. Also, while Affinity Photo now supports some aspects of Adobe Smart Objects when you open a PSD, if you save it back to PSD format I do not think the Smart Objects will fully survive (they, too, may be rasterized).

+1

If you are collaborating with other people I would stay with Photoshop. Sounds like you are just asking for headaches an compatibility issues by moving to Affinity. While the software is good, it is not the same as Photoshop. I would say the same for Designer and Publisher if trying to mix in with an Adobe workflow.
