Arnie Posted April 6, 2020 Posted April 6, 2020 The update from 1.8.2 to 1.8.3 fails quite early with "Setup failed". The log ends up with the message: +Creating InstallOperation + Path: C:\Program Files\Affinity Photo\ + WantShortcut: False +Requesting operation: SetupUI.InstallOperation +Switching to page: Operation +Starting MsiOperation +Error: Systém nemůže otevřít zadaný soubor nebo zařízení. +MsiOperation result: 110 +Setting result page message: Setup failed The error message says that the specified file or device cannot be opened. Tried to restart the computer, run the setup with administrator rights directly, but did not help. Quote

Mine shows: Also, if you right-click on it and choose Properties, you should have a Digital Signature tab that shows this information: If you click on one of the entries (I used sha256) and click on Details, you should get something like this: I suspect your download is not complete, or is corrupted, and you should download it again. Arnie Posted April 8, 2020 Author Posted April 8, 2020 Quote I downloaded it again but the result is the very same error. Actual file size is 515 947 280 bytes. Both digital signatures seem ok. I run ProcessMonitor from SysInternals to figure out what file/device cannot be opened but I was not successful. Complete log from SetupUI attached. Any ideas? SetupUI.log Quote
Staff Chris B Posted April 8, 2020 Staff Posted April 8, 2020 Thanks Arnie, I will pass this over for investigation. I assume you've rebooted Windows recently and have no pending Windows updates etc? Also, have you uninstalled any previous versions? If not, I'd suggest you do that. Quote How to format a bug report | Learning Resources | List of V2 FAQs | YouTube Tutorials

Interesting that it's larger than mine, but perhaps that is not relevant. The SetupUI.log file basically says the system can't find the MSI installer that was extracted, I think. Question: Have you configured your system environment variables to move the TEMP folder from its default location? If so, that might be part of the problem. Some settings are usually lost during uninstall and install and I just do not want to do that unless it is needed. Sorry for font, set to default size, not bold, I do not know why it is so big. 🙂 2 hours ago, walt.farrell said: Question: Have you configured your system environment variables to move the TEMP folder from its default location? If so, that might be part of the problem. Yes, TEMP is moved to RAM disk, but it would be quite wierd if that would be the problem. Thanks for help, I managed to update it finally. I run affinity-photo-1.8.3.exe, but I did not start update itself. It extracted its contents to some folder in TEMP directory. I copied that whole directory right next to it just to prevent it from being deleted after setup would eventually fail. I closed the running installation and run it again from the copy I made. And it worked. 🙂 Chris B 1 Quote

Weird, perhaps, but I've seen several reports that it causes this problem, if I remember correctly. Glad you got it to work. Garrett Adams Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 After starting update the following appears: "The following applications must be closed before Setup proceeds: crashpad_handler.exe. Continuing will close them automatically." Continuing though after few seconds the install will fail. (note manually disabling crashpad_handler.exe prior to install results in "Setup Failed". I am running Windows Insider Build 19603. Quote

It should properly terminate the application before the install proceeds, but I've sometimes had problems with that, too. It's safest to stop the application before running the update. At this point, though, please review https://affin.co/WinSetupFailed as the suggestions there should get you going. If not, please let us know and let us see the two log files.
