1.8.3 Align to Last Selected issue

Recommended Posts

I just updated to 1.8.3 for MacOS. The 'align to last selected' option appears to be gone. If I go to the Alignment tool, I cannot change the drop down menu that usually allows you to select 'align to first', 'align to last', 'align to selection bounds' etc. Instead it is fixed to 'selection bounds' and cannot be changed. Is there a new way to change this setting that I haven't found yet? Was this feature removed? This is absolutely critical for making scientific figures: I need to be able to align legends etc to graph axes and tick marks without changing the position of the tick mark or axis itself. Thanks!

Maybe I shouldn't have answered here, I'm on Windows, sorry.

I'm on Windows, too, but from forum discussions it works the same way on Mac.

One must now (since 1.8 or 1.8.2, depending on OS, I think) choose a horizontal or vertical alignment option before the alignment bounds can be specified. That is an intentional change in behavior.

I've been having problems with this too. From what I understand, I have to select the Align Horizontally/Vertically button first, then decide Align to First Selected, etc. I take it from @walt.farrell that this was intentional?

Is there any way at least to change the default for Align to? I'm used to aligning to First Selected...
