Affinity Photo freezes after moving layer

Hi,

I am testing Affinity Photo 1.8.0, 1.8.2 and 1.8.3 und Windows 10 on three different PCs.

The issue appears with 1.8.2/3 but NOT with 1.8.0 and is very easy to reproduce.

* Start Affinity Photo

* Check "Documents open in a new floating window"

* Open any image

* Create any other layer(s) (for instance an adjustment layer)

* Move any layer (up or down or remove)

* Now Affinity Photo is frozen

Just wanted to chime in and say I'm experiencing this exact same problem. Working with a layer makes the software unusable.

Hi,

I'm experiencing the same issue in Affinity Designer. Everything else seems to work as far as i tried.
A temporary solution is to select and copy everthing within the layer you want to move, create a new layer at the right place within the layer order and paste the contents.

The best solution I found was to uninstall and install an older version. I can't believe a bug this big is still an issue, people have work to do and layers being broken make that impossible. I digress. You can download the older versions here: https://store.serif.com/en-gb/update/windows/photo/1/

This was fixed on the 6th April in the beta:

We have made fixes/improvements to this area (App locks up when moving layers when document is floating) of the program in the latest release.

The fixes and how to update are described in these forum posts.

I have a simular problem.

I have the latest version of Affinity photo and like to use it as a drawing app, like I used to do in photoshop and have really been enjoying it.

for quite a while now when ever I have been messing with the layers, such as merging selevted layers, moving them or turning them on and off, the program either freezes like in Henning B's case or just shutting the program down.

 

I have tried all the selutions I could find:

Turning Hardware accelaration off

Reseting every function I could find

Trying with a single monitor

Turning all other apps off

reinstalling the program.

 

And it still happens.

 

I use windows 11 btw.
