iPad Affinity designer App crashing

Recommended Posts

I bought the Affinity designer around a month ago. It was working fine for a while. Now the app keeps crashing. I’ll open the app for about 20 seconds and it’ll crash. Or I’ll toggle a layer visibility on and off a few times, then crash. If I try to do anything, it’s pointless because it’ll crash without saving. I got the latest version, 4.0 with a recent update but nothing changed. Turned the iPad on and off, but the app still crashes.

The latest version is 1.8.3, not sure what 4.0 you are referring to?

Have you tried a Forced Restart of your iPad? Did it make any difference?

Force Restart iPad
On older iPads this is done by pressing home and power buttons continuously until you see the Apple logo.
On new iPads it is volume up, volume down then press power until Apple logo appears,

I already tried force restart.

Haven't added any new apps since downloading affinity.

Other apps are factory apps and they aren't malfunctioning. Only Affinity.

Started recently since using fx on objects in my scenes.

I have plenty of memory on my ipad. Only used 16 gigs out of over 500 gigs.

Is there supposed to be some sort of limit on how many fx u can add to your work?

No, but sometimes a glitch can occur that causes issues with the file. If it’s just the one file you could save the file as a .afdesign file and attach it here. If mods can replicate the fault they can give it to developers to find a cause and fix it. 🙂

Yes I can get it to crash. Turning on all layers and zooming did it one time. Turning on layers and moving a layer did it another time. Hopefully Mods can find a cause/reason.

Change your original post heading to 'My file is causing app to crash repeatedly'. That should gets mods attention.

Hi RcAbdulkh,

Sorry for the delay in responding, I've just been trying your document on a first gen 12.9" iPad Pro and cannot get your file to crash. I've been zooming in and out and moving objects around for a few minutes without any form of crashing.

What model iPad are you using? If you go to Settings > About can you let us know what is says under 'Model Number'?

Lastly are you able to use the iPad's screen recorder to get a recording that demonstrates the steps you're taking to make the software crash with this document?

Thanks

Hi Sean, I was able to crash using steps above. Moving layers was performed in layer studio.

Unfortunately I had tried that - enabled all layers and just continually zoomed in and out whilst moving objects. Is it quick and easy for you to reproduce? If so could you attach a video please?

Thanks for that video - just tried the exact same steps (as good as I can tell) and still no crashing here. What model iPad are you using? If you go to Settings > About can you let us know what is says under 'Model Number'? Are you using an Apple Pencil at all, or any other type of Pencil device? If so which model is that?

Also could you attach some of the crash reports? They can be found in Settings > Privacy > Analytics & Improvements > Analytics Data - they will be prefixed with the name Designer iPad- followed by the date and time of the crash. So for example: Designer iPad-2020-04-29-140959.ips.

If you could attach a few of these then I can pass those on to development.

I’m using an iPad Apple Pencil when drawing in the Affinity App and it doesn’t show any other info other than it’s an Apple pencil. The iPad model number is iPad Pro 12.9 3rd generation. Model number MTFP2LL/ATrying to figure out how to send the report. I’ll send this brief video for now. Not sure if it helps

Thanks for that - you can use the Share button in the top right of that dialog to Save them to Files or other locations. Is it the Apple Pencil 2nd Gen (with magnetic charger), and does the application crash if you use your fingers at all instead of the Pencil?
