drobtitan Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Affinity Designer v1.8.2 on Mac Create a new document and draw something Click in the menu bar: View -> New View Now there are two window tabs but only one window is visible and active Is there a way to view both windows side by side? I can't undock any of them from the tab bar in order to rearrange them NOTE: That Window -> Separated Mode shows the windows but also show the desktop of my Mac as background and the tool panels scrambled I also want to see two documents opened side by side. Gear maker Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Yes, use separated mode then grab one by the name bar and drag it to the right side of the screen and the other to the left. You can resize or zoom the display for either as much as you want. Also yes when switching the panels may need to be adjusted depending how you use them. Your desktop will be visible between the documents and panels. Quote iMac (27-inch, Late 2009) with macOS Sierra

Windows doesn't have Separated Mode; Mac doesn't have floating/undocked document windows. That's just the way they wrote the code. There are also differences in the way you can dock the Studio panels between the two OSes. R C-R Posted April 1, 2020 Posted April 1, 2020 10 hours ago, Gear maker said: Also yes when switching the panels may need to be adjusted depending how you use them. @drobtitan, this is because in the Mac versions, the panel positions in regular & separated modes are saved separately, so once you get them arranged in separated mode the way you want them, they should be that way every time you go into separated mode. As for the Mac desktop picture being in the background, this is normal & expected for any Mac app that is not being used in full screen mode. Of course, full screen mode is not available in separated mode (because then only one document window could be seen at a time, defeating the purpose of that mode). If you find seeing the Mac desktop picture in the background distracting while in separated mode (or at any time when any app is not in full screen mode), you can use the Spaces feature of the Mac OS to create one or more additional desktops. In the Desktop & Screen Saver System Preference, choose a plain neutral color (from the Apple > Colors section of the Desktop tab) for the desktop you want the Affinity (or whatever) app to appear in. It may not be obvious that each Spaces desktop can have a different desktop picture or how to assign different ones to different desktops. To do that, open the Desktop & Screen Saver System Preference in the current desktop & follow the instructions in the Move an app window from one space to another section of the Apple article to move the System Preference window to the desired desktop. Choose the desktop picture for that desktop in the usual way, & if desired then move the System Preferences window to a different desktop. You can also assign assign an app to a specific space so the app will always automatically open in that space. The Apple article also explains how to set that up & to use the other options you might find useful for your workflows.
