lucaben
After working on a document with lots of layers for a while, I found out that there's no way to change the background colour of the document from white to transparent, or at least, not an easy and intuitive way... someone in the forum mentioned the menu File > Document Setup but I can't find it under the File menu. I need to set a transparent background in order to export a PNG with transparency. Creating a new document with transparent background doesn't seem to help unless you are willing to loose all your layers and flatten them all into a single layer. Far from ideal! I am surprised such a basic feature seems to be impossible to achieve. I am also surprised that there's no way to contact the customer support directly, I'd be willing to pay a bit more but get the support that I need. Thanks
Paul Bravery
Hi lucaben, If you go to the document set up, you can change the background to transparent: Hope this helps. Paul.

Thanks Hi lucaben, The keyboard shortcut to the document set up is the same as in Adobe - Shift>Command>P, there is also a document set up tab above the document window at the left: Hope this helps. Paul.
coranda
The document setup item is in AD but I don't think AP has it unfortunately. It would be handy to switch from white paper to transparent in AP because it affects the channels panel. Paul Bravery
Staff Leigh Posted July 23, 2015 Staff Share Posted July 23, 2015 Another user added this to the Feature Request section here. If you have Affinity Designer, you could open your document in ADF and follow Paul's steps. You can then reopen in Affinity Photo to continue editing. Paul Bravery
Thanks for clarifying, Leigh. I did not realise the issue was exclusive to Affinity Photo. I notice that if you need a transparent background in a file you are originating in AP, then it's an option at the initial document set up: Paul. lucaben
Thank you guys, I appreciate your efforts. It looks like this feature is not there yet, I am a bit surprised as it seems such a basic feature to me... Anyone from the Affinity Team is looking at this thread and can let us know if there's a timeline to get this implemented? To be honest I wouldn't mind to pay a bit more in order to get the support I need, instead of looking through dozens of open questions on the forum... whistlerdan
Staff Leigh Posted August 18, 2015 Staff Share Posted August 18, 2015 Anyone from the Affinity Team is looking at this thread and can let us know if there's a timeline to get this implemented? I can only suggest that you add your comment to this thread in the Feature Request section.
