malayali Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 I was experimenting with aftemplate file and noticed that it's not creating a new untitled document if I directly double-click on it to open or access it from File > Open window! Most of the template formats (PSDT, AIT, INDT etc) prompts a new document and this would be a handy feature if included. Need of editing a template occurs rare and in such cases Open Template for Edit option can be used. Joachim_L Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 I guess this will not be fixed. How to tell, that you want to edit the template? Quote ------ Windows 10 | i5-8500 CPU | Intel UHD 630 Graphics | 32 GB RAM | Latest Retail and Beta versions of complete Affinity range installed

I prefer to have two clicks less with the current method. So this is not a bug, but more a feature request? Templates usually work like that and it makes the workflow much easier. Take an example of PSDT or any other template formats. They all prompt to a new document rather than to edit the template itself. walt.farrell Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 So you're proposing that double-clicking on a template file, and using File > Open on it should behave differently? walt.farrell Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 Personally, I disagree. It is easier to edit a template if you can simply open it, and make your changes. But you are free to have your opinion, of course Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. malayali Posted March 30, 2020 Author Posted March 30, 2020 Working previously with template file formats such as PSDT, AIT and so on initially I thought this is a bug. Now realized that I should have posted this in feature requests instead. 🙄 On 3/30/2020 at 6:21 PM, walt.farrell said: Personally, I disagree. Pšenda Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 The truth is that the most common use of a template is to create a new document. Its adjustment is rarely done so double click difference would be understandable and natural (adequate New Form). However, opening a template should remain for her modification. malayali 1 Quote Affinity Store (MSI/EXE): Affinity Suite (ADe, APh, APu) 2.5.7.2948 (Retail) Dell OptiPlex 7060, i5-8500 3.00 GHz, 16 GB, Intel UHD Graphics 630, Dell P2417H 1920 x 1080, Windows 11 Pro, Version 24H2, Build 26100.2605. markw Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 On macOS in the 'New Document' window, you can double click on a Template’s thumbnail to open it or after selecting it’s thumbnail clicking the ‘Create’ button. Either way it always opens as a new ‘untitled’ document. If you want to edit a preexisting template, right click on the one you wish to change and you will get a popup with the option ‘Open Template for Edit’. I like this easy way to edit a template, but we could have a second option "Open as new" with the right-click menu on Windows (and perhaps on OS X). Quote
