How do you subtract from within a line? I am trying to draw a line with the vector brush tool - adding a thinner one on top - and I don't get the option to subtract - can you subtract  from within a line? Thank you

Short answer is no. You may be able to get the result you want by first drawing the lines then expanding the strokes and doing the subtraction.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.5.7 | Affinity Photo 2.5.7 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.7 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

I'm not sure this would do what you want, but have you considered drawing a second line over the brushed one, setting its blend mode to Erase, & grouping the two lines together?

@Tlmanty Use the Appearance panel…

  1. Draw your line and add your brush stroke.
  2. Add a 2nd stroke in the Appearance panel.
  3. Set the blend mode of the 2nd line to Erase.
