MESTE Posted March 20, 2020 Posted March 20, 2020 OK, I searched on the forums and in theory this should work nut somehow I cannot manage to export PDF so that my RGB images to be converted to CMYK. My documents is in CMYK space using US web coated space and I have selected Covert button. Then I tried PDF press ready of print then: - colour space: as document (tried with CMYK but still no good) - Profile: use document profile - selected convert image colour spaces I tried with PNG and JPG images in RBG format, the PDF exported has the images in RGB format. What should I do? I use Affinity Publisher 1.8.2 Thanks, Quote
MESTE Posted March 20, 2020 Author Posted March 20, 2020 (edited) I do not have Acrobat Reader so I imported the PDF into Adobe Photoshop where it said RGB profile. Is there any way I could check this in Affinity? I mean to import the exported PDF into Affinity Publisher and check the colour profile? Edited March 20, 2020 by MESTE Quote
wonderings Posted March 20, 2020 Posted March 20, 2020 You can use preflight and it will show you what images are not CMYK. Personally I do not work with RGB images. When I get them I convert them to CMYK which gives you a more accurate view of what you will get when it comes time to print. If the client is not happy with the colour then, you can adjust the CMYK file to get something possible in that colour space. Quote
MESTE Posted March 20, 2020 Author Posted March 20, 2020 I did that, and I can see which are RGB, but my aim was to not trouble with CMYK conversion before exporting, and let Affinity convert everything into CMYK. Isn't this something Publisher should do? I am sure it is possible but I am hoping someone more experience to be able to tell me what I am doing wrong... Quote

At least in CS6. @MESTE Upload an example file and we will have a look. I think that Photoshop does not detect the color mode or profile when opening a PDF (but it probably depends), but if you have Illustrator, it does. Based on my trials, Photoshop recognised as RGB or CMYK if they are as such (I exported a PDF with a RGB image and was recognised as RGB, and similar CMYK recognised as CMYK, when in theory Publisher should have exported both of them in CMYK Quote
wonderings Posted March 20, 2020 Posted March 20, 2020 The latest version of Photoshop gives you a dialogue box giving you options for what colour space you want to use. It does not detect what the file natively is. If there is any text in the PDF I would avoid opening and resaving in photoshop, massive quality loss of text as it is no longer a font or vector. Quote

MikeW Posted March 20, 2020 Posted March 20, 2020 Been a long time since I've used PS and don't have it installed. The attatched pdf uses an output intent. There are no rgb elements in the file. If PS defaults to opening it in rgb then that is an issue with ps. test.pdf Quote

MESTE Posted March 20, 2020 Author Posted March 20, 2020 I hope/believe I understand correctly, as I am new to this app, so thanks for your input Quote
MikeW Posted March 20, 2020 Posted March 20, 2020 The only good means of checking a pdf or elements thereof is Acrobat or pdfToolbox. Quote
