blf
Is it possible to change the contents of a Text Symbol without unlinking the Text Color and Size from the Symbol? Basically, I'm attempting to use Symbols sort of like CSS classes. I'd like to be able to change the contents of a text fragment but still be able to style all text fragments the same way (Color, Size, etc...). Why do you use Symbols? These are suitable for graphics. Why not use Character or Paragraph Style? So styles for text. 7 hours ago, blf said: like CSS classes What application do you use? According to working with the text I assume APublisher. blf
I'm currently using Affinity Designer and trying to do some User Interface Prototyping. I only just started using the software, so maybe Symbols aren't the right tool for the job. To clarify, I'm not actually creating a Symbol directly from a Text object. Rather, I'm grouping together a bunch of objects to create something which resembles a list item and then creating a Symbol from that group. I'm then trying to change the contents of the list item while maintaining the ability to style it. I might play around with Text Styles tonight and see if that goes any better. If there is a better way to do what I'm trying to do, I'm all ears. I'm just hoping that I can use Designer to prototype a little more rapidly than firing up a browser and writing some code. Without a demonstration of exactly what you are trying to do, nobody is likely to advise you on the best/optimally course of action. Aammppaa
When Text is de-synced from a symbol it loses sync of: position, size, font, colour, contents etc. But you can work around this by using Text Styles in combination with Symbols. But this is perhaps the meaning of the symbol - so that any change is reflected in all its instances. If you want to edit a local copy of symbol, you must disable Sync in the Symbol panel, or Detach it completely. https://affinity.help/designer/English.lproj/pages/Panels/symbolsPanel.htmlhttps://affinity.help/designer/English.lproj/pages/SymbolsAssets/symbols.html Quote Affinity Store (MSI/EXE): Affinity Suite (ADe, APh, APu) 2.4.0.2301 Dell OptiPlex 7060, i5-8500 3.00 GHz, 16 GB, Intel UHD Graphics 630, Dell P2417H 1920 x 1080, Windows 11 Pro, Version 23H2, Build 22631.3155. If you only want partial sync between objects, you can link them in Affinity Photo via Layer > Duplicate Linked, or the Links panel. This feature is only available and editable in Photo, but generally it works just as well with Designer (or Publisher, for that matter) documents: in Designer: File > Edit in Photo in Photo: set up linked layers (every object is in fact a "layer"): affinity.help/photo/English.lproj/pages/LayerOperations/linking.html File > Edit in Designer continue in Designer Note that changing text content and text attributes is always linked and cannot be separated either.
