Keep layer isolated (visually as well as performance wise)

Okay so I need this desperately.

I want to be able to isolate an item like you do with alt-clicking on a layer. But I want it to keep being isolated so I can work on that layer/group/symbol. This way I would (or should), for example isolate a symbol in a heavy document and work on it without performance lag caused by the updating of all the symbols. 

Now when I select a subobject of an isolated object I immediately go out of isolation mode. 

 

Should be great if this was implemented.

Isolation Mode is pretty lacking in Affinity at present.

There have been many requests for improvements over the years ( https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/search/&q=isolation mode ).

Since we are currently in a global self-isolation-mode, what better time for the devs to give this feature a little love?!

I miss Illustrator’s isolation mode lots, makes editing on a busy artboard much easier. Frustrating to accidentally leave an isolated selection due to a misclick on another element.
