1.8.2 - Background is transparent even though there is no mask

Recommended Posts

As the title says. I don't have any masks in the BG group or in the layers inside it, yet the background is not showing. This didn't happen with 1.8 which this document was made with. Please see attached a screen shot as well as the document (in low-res).

On Trees Left and Trees Right you have for both a Gaussian Blur with 0px. Removing this FX on both layers repairs the document ... I think.

I moved the sliders back and forth for the Gaussian Blur Filters and they appeared.

To clarify, this problem did not appear in 1.8 in which this document was created with. Everything was working perfectly fine and without workarounds until I installed 1.8.2. Once I opened it with 1.8.2, the document stopped work properly.

There's definitely an issue here. It's strange how slightly nudging the slider causes this issue to appear/disappear. I'm really not sure what's happened so I'm just going to log it with the developers. Sorry for the trouble Alex.

Here's a little more info,

After manipulating the sliders, I closed the document without saving it. I waited a couple of minutes then opened it again, to find the same problem. So again I manipulated the sliders, then saved the document upon closing. Re-opened and this time the background was no longer transparent.

There's a few different things that can be done which allows the background/sky to be seen. Turning the exposure adjustment layer off, removing it from the BG Group, manipulating sliders. Also if you change the Blend Mode for the BG Group from PassThrough to Normal, the sky is opaque.

Hey is there any chance there will be fix for windows version aswell anytime soon? Current 1.82 is unusable due to bug mentioned in this topic...Should I wait or just go back to 1.8...?

I'd wait unless it is stopping you from working. I would hope Windows won't be too far behind.

Hi everyone,
This is now fixed in Affinity Photo Customer Beta 1.8.3.175 (on macOS). The fix will also be included in an upcoming Customer Beta on Windows.

Thanks! Any ETA on the release of this customer beta? I hope it doesn't take more than a few days, because this bug is really messing up my work (can't use effects and groups together). 😕
