Hi,

First, I'd like to acknowledge the team behind Affinity Designer, I mean you guys are amazing. You should really sell the truth about how fast Affinity Designer is cause sometimes, I feel it's not properly said :).

Affinity Designer is so fast, fluid and fun to work with. I enjoy using it a lot, though still have to go back to photoshop for a few reasons. One of which is mockups, but with the launch of 1.8,  I think I might be very close to letting Adobe Photoshop go.

Now to the matter I'd like to talk about, I design contents and send across to other guys to work on, and many still use photoshop. Cause of this, it's difficult to work smart and save time cause after exporting to PSD, the text gets rasterized and becomes uneditable and the guys I work with needs it editable so they can continue their work.

I've tried to look for a way around this but couldn't really find any convenient method. So, I'd like to suggest a way/feature that allows us to export text from Affinity to PSD with the text remaining editable, this would be super great and I believe I'm speaking for others too.

thanks :)

Many people have asked for editable text in PSD Neo, is there a reason it has to be PSD?

Have you tried PDF?

All of the Affinity apps work with the PDF portion of an Adobe file, so it follows that PSD is a bit redundant when working Affinity to Adobe and visa versa; unless I’m missing something that PSD does over PDF?

To 'first defence Affinity Jedi'

I would also love for Affinity to allow PSD exports with editable text. Using the .PDF version from Photoshop to Affinity photo gives you nonsense grouped layers that have none of the layers names given in Photoshop also the text layer is 100% non editable! It would actually be great if Affinity could enable both the .PSD and .PDF files to allow editable text.

The lack of this feature is stopping me from leaving Adobe altogether.

The issue is that PSD is not really an exchange format. It is a proprietary format owned by Adobe, which they have only partially documented.

One of the things they do not document is how to make editable text. That means that to support editable text Serif would need to experiment in PhotoShop, creating PSD files with various text settings, and then reverse-engineer the differences between the PSD files to discover how to make a PSD file with editable text that supports those options.

And in the next release of the Adobe products, the format might change in either substantial or subtle ways, which Serif would have to rediscover.

Some application developers have been willing to do that experimentation, and take the risks associated with the undocumented information changing in undocumented ways. So far, Serif has not been willing to do that. So, if editable text in PSD files that you create is critical to you, then you should stick with the Adobe products or a non-Adobe product that supports that function.
