Freeze on Undo of Vector Brush above Mask Layer

Recommended Posts

1. Start a new document.
2. Add a Mask Layer
3. Scribble a curve with the vector brush
4. Undo

Result: Designer freezes and must be killed via Task Manager

I can't reproduce this one on Windows 10 Enterprise laptop with a regular mouse and ho-hum built-in Intel GFX card.

Just checked again on my system, after a reboot, and still get the same freeze.

Perhaps a few more people could give it a go and see what happens?

Hi Aammppaa,

I'm not getting this either, are you using your Huion when getting this crash? If so does it happen if you use your mouse at all? If it is limited to the Huion does switching Windows Ink off in Preferences > Tools help?

No not using Huion Tablet, just scribbling with the mouse.

Just checked again (following my recipe) and still getting the same result.

Unfortunately still not a problem for me. Although you're using the mouse, is the little Huion widget running in the taskbar? If so can you kill that and see what happens? Are there any other things running that might interfere with shortcuts (I had a screen capture utility eat up some shortcuts recently like Ctrl+D).

Lastly if you go to %AppData%\Affinity\Designer\ and rename the '1.0' folder and restart the app, does that make the problem go away? If so could you zip up and attach that folder please?

I quit the Huion widget: no change.

I quit all other programs (only Designer running): behaviour changed slightly - Designer now tends to crash to desktop rather than freeze.

I renamed the 1.0 folder: Undo works fine and  Designer no longer crashes. (Zip file attached).

Finally I undocked the Appearance Panel (so that it is floating): Designer now freezes or crashes to Desktop again.

Thanks for that! It is actually the Appearance Panel that is causing the issue. Mine wasn't undocked, but was visible and got a hang as soon as I did the Undo.

I'll get that passed on! Thanks again :)

Hi I was able to reproduce this except this was happening with the CTRL button but the outcome was the same exact type of freeze. I was able to fix it with this method.

Version 1.8.3.641

The fix you quoted will only work because it makes the Appearance Panel not visible. As soon as you have the Appearance Panel visible (the root cause) you may run into the same issue. As I've mentioned this issue has been passed on to development.
