Suggestion: Hidden layers in placed documents shouldn't affect text wrap

Recommended Posts

Currently have to completely rasterize layers and delete original layers out of linked files for text to wrap close to the desired image. Necessitates different versions of the same file, especially if one wants to go back and bring back parts that had to be deleted or rasterized.  Ideally text would wrap around visible layers from a file only. Even better would be if the layer masks didn't need to be rasterized to the layer for text wrap to work properly.

First image shows the layer contents of the file, second image shows the text going bye-bye, as it believes it's over the edge of the image.

To prevent text from wrapping around a particular object:

  1. Select the layer (object) that text is inappropriately wrapping around.
  2. On the toolbar click the Text Wrap Settings button.
  3. Click None.

Alternatively, to prevent text in a particular frame from wrapping around anything:

  1. Select the frame whose text should not be wrapped
  2. On the Text Frame panel, in the General section, choose Ignore Text Wraps.

Does editing the wrap outline not work for you, there is a huge amount of control where the text wraps you can add nodes and move them, it's the same principle as using the Pen tool. You can edit the outline at any point if you change your mind. There is no need to rasterise anything when using the wrap outline.

I realized after the fact that the wrap outline could be adjusted (prior to the replies, but I still appreciate them - found the outline button by accident).

Still, it'd be handy if mask transparency or layer visibility was accounted for, but maybe it's something to be considered further down the line when bigger feature requests and things are addressed, or maybe not at all, as adding it would possibly contribute to bloating the software.
